FLYWHEEL WEIGHT INSTALL
🔧 Flywheel Weight – Simple Install Guide
Tools & Materials Required
- Heat gun or oven
- Thread locker (red/high-strength)
- Torque wrench
- Appropriate hex/Allen key for grub screws
- Heat-resistant gloves
Installation Steps
- Remove the ignition cover to gain access to the flywheel.
- Clean the flywheel surface thoroughly. Remove any dirt, oil, rust, or debris to ensure a proper fit.
-
Heat the flywheel weight to approximately 180°C (356°F) using either:
- An oven, or
- A heat gun
- Install the flywheel weight by carefully sliding it over the outer edge of the flywheel. Ensure the weight is fully seated against the flywheel teeth and sits evenly around the circumference.
- Check alignment by rotating the weight around the flywheel to confirm it is properly positioned and seated.
- Allow the assembly to cool naturally. As the weight cools, it will shrink and securely grip the flywheel.
-
Secure the grub screws:
- Apply a small amount of red thread locker to each grub screw.
- Install and tighten the screws evenly.
- Torque the grub screws to 6 Nm (53 in-lb).
- Reinstall the ignition cover and verify that there is adequate clearance and no contact between components before starting the engine.
Important Notes
- Do not force the weight onto the flywheel when cold.
- Wear heat-resistant gloves when handling heated parts.
- Verify that the flywheel rotates freely after installation.
- Follow the motorcycle manufacturer's service manual for any model-specific procedures.
Torque Specification: 6 Nm (53 in-lb) for grub screws.
